Do I need to replace my windows

There are several reasons why it becomes necessary to replace windows. The primary reason is to save on utility bills or maintenance costs. Sometimes old windows will warp, and then become hard to open and close, or they’ll need scraping, new putty and repainting. Many homeowners also replace their windows in order to improve the resale value of their house.

Let’s look at some of these issues in detail.

Low Utility Bills

If you install good quality windows, you can save a substantial amount on your utility bills. Did you know that in the average home, 38% of the heat loss is through windows and doors? If you have drafty single-pane windows or single-pane aluminum sliders, the heat loss could be as high as 50%. The poorer the performance of your old windows, the more you are going to end up spending on your energy bills.

Low Maintenance Costs

There are ways that you can save money on maintenance with new windows. Vinyl windows never need to be painted inside or out, so in the long run your cost for upkeep is practically zero.  Also, with several new window models and designs, you can clean the exterior from within the house which saves you a lot of time and effort, and won’t require you to pay for additional cleaning and maintenance services.

Easier to Open and Close

It doesn’t make much sense to constantly wrestle with stubborn old windows, risking physical strain or injury. With a new window that operates smoothly with little or no exertion, you can avoid all that.

Upgrade for the Home

Looking at it from the point of view of upgrading your home, replacing windows is one of the best improvements you can invest in. High quality windows can increase the overall window area and make your home appear brighter and more spacious. In addition, windows are available that come with films providing ultraviolet protection. This goes a long way in keeping your carpet, curtains, and upholstery from fading. Finally, distinctive windows with special touches, like curved panes or stained glass can give a room special appeal, which will definitely attract a homebuyer.
